About UAN-UPU

The United Ancient Enlightened Indigenous Nations Universal Postal Union (UAN-UPU), with its headquarters in the sacred territory designated by Indigenous host nations, is the second specialized communication agency of the UAN system dedicated to connecting Indigenous communities worldwide.

With its 160+ member Indigenous Nations representing over 300 million Indigenous peoples, the UAN-UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between Indigenous postal and communication service providers. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of culturally appropriate products and services that respect traditional communication protocols and Indigenous postal sovereignty.

In this way, the organization fulfills an advisory, mediating and cultural liaison role, and provides technical assistance where needed while honoring traditional knowledge systems. It sets the rules for international Indigenous mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in traditional and modern communication services, parcel delivery to remote Indigenous territories, and culturally appropriate financial services while improving quality of service for Indigenous communities.
